I qualified as a teacher (BEd (Hons), University of Warwick) in 1985, and initially worked in primary schools before specialising in special educational needs and working with adults and children in all key stages. In 1998 I began my journey in Protective Behaviours by completing 2 day Foundation training and then 4 day Intermediate/Extended training. I spent the next few years using the process as well as revisiting and co-delivering the training with Di Margetts, Simon Sneath and John Fardon until, in 2003, I felt ready to be observed and assessed in order to become endorsed as a trainer. Currently I facilitate workshops, 1-day Introductory, 2-day Foundation & 4-day Intermediate (Process into Practice) Protective Behaviours courses on a freelance basis. Initially the majority of this work took place in Hertfordshire as part of an Early Intervention project for Action for Children which focused on the under 5s and also in Northamptonshire with pre-school settings and families. My PB trainer work now takes me all over the country and I also work as a mentor for trainee trainers and deliver PB Train the Trainer courses for groups of trainees and on a one-to-one basis at home and abroad.

My passion for Protective Behaviours has lead me to concentrate my efforts on getting involved with children and families as early as possible. With this in mind I have been developing programmes for early years settings and parents, as well as looking at how existing programmes, such as The Northamptonshire Baby Room Project, can include the core principles of the PB process. A result of this was that I facilitated a project across day care settings in Rutland and also act as an advocate for Protective Behaviours in terms of how it fits with Hertfordshire's '5 to Thrive - My Baby Brain' initiative. I have also provided PB training for undergraduates studying at the University of Northampton on courses that lead to EYPS (Early Years Professional Status) and

As well as being a founder member of the PBPeople website, I have also helped to develop the Protective Behaviours Training Partnership (www.protectivebehaviourstraining.co.uk) with fellow PBPeople, Ann Seal, Melanie Pearson and Simon Sneath. This partnership has been established to provide further opportunities to promote PBs and PB training to a wider audience at a realistic and affordable price, whilst upholding quality standards for Protective Behaviours training and continuing professional development for PB trainers.

My background is therefore working with a wide range of people including babies, children, young people, parents, teachers, early years practitioners and I have knowledge of a wide range of special educational needs. As well as working as a freelance trainer, I am also qualified to work as a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI) and Portage Visitor. bellaBefore choosing in 2011 to work totally freelance, I was employed for over 20 years by Northamptonshire County Council, the last 10 of which were as a Pre-School Teacher (SEN)/Area SENCo. Throughout all of my roles I am able to use the Protective Behaviours process and continue to do so on a daily basis in my work, play, with my family and friends and even my dog Bella!
