Awareness raising was created by Maureen Miller
There was a news item on BBC Breakfast this morning discussing cyber bullying and I felt itapropriate to contact Lord Richard Best, who serves on a government select committee on this topic - I was delighted to receive a response and acknowledgement of PBs and it's effectiveness - see below
Lord Best wrote
Many thanks. You are absolutely right and Protective Behaviours is clearly an important approach.
I recently witnessed an excellent session with schoolchildren, organised by the NSPCC, creating greater awareness of how "cyber-bullying" can be extremely hurtful - and how children should react to it.
Good luck with your very worthwhile work:
Richard Best

Thanks for sharing this Maureen - will look for the news item and perhaps follow-up too. Great example of risking on purpose in my opinion and maybe extending networks?

Think I recognise that feeling Maureen :)

Judith Staff and I recently met with the editor of Northamptonshire's Child Magazine to talk about PBs with a view to the magazine publishing a number of articles based on the PB process. With the summer holidays fast approaching this seemed a timely opportunity and our drive was to write something that could help parents and carers talk PBs with children - the previous summer edition was still referring to 'Stranger Danger'. So 'thank you' Theresa for listening to us 'wax lyrical about the process, writing something on our behalf and providing another step on the long journey to getting the words Protective Behaviours heard by adults and children.

The current edition (July/August) can be viewed on-line and the first article can be found on pages 12 & 13. Still not sure how well we did or how comfortable I feel with being termed an 'expert' - certainly not words Judith and I would choose to use to describe ourselves and we would have definitely preferred a picture of a child having fun ;)

I still find the difference between Protective Behaviours and 'protective behaviours' rather interesting - and I feel curious to know which one the NSPCC refer to?....

Last week, I was sent our new 'model' safeguarding policy from our Local Authority, which has been developed by our LSCBN and sent out to all schools. I felt excited and thrilled to see that Protective Behaviours is listed in there on page 3 under the 'Safeguarding in the Curriculum' section, alongside fire and water safety, bullying and road safety!! Fantastic, in my opinion. I look forward to hearing of lots more schools and other agencies accessing training in the coming year and giving PBs a voice to 'shout' for itself.

:woohoo:
