"Living Safely for People with Special Needs" was created by Donna Fortin
Hi PB UK! A co-Trainer, Mary Ann Kouba and I have revised the "Living Safely for People with Special Needs - Based on the Protective Behaviors Process" Manual and Workbook. So, throw away your current copy and contact Simon Sneath for a new version. We are proud of the new version as it is much more 'user friendly' and adds Howard Gardner's "Multiple Intelligences", which we have used for some time now as it fits perfectly with PBs. There are 12 Units, each with a Multiple Intelligences Icon and accompanying workbook pages for duplication. Of course it is free to be used by PB Trainers

Would love to have feedback on how it is used, and what suggestions might make it even better.

Great that PB UK has changed the wording of the second theme. As a teacher of grammar, it always bothered me, the double negative, and the new wording says so much more.

Congratulations! on your new website. PB USA is working on a new one and hope to have it up and running by the beginning of the New Year!

Hi Donna,
Great to hear from you and looking forward to visiting you PB US website in the new year.
I will definitely be contacting Simon for an updated version of the Living Safely resource although not sure I have the heart to get rid of my 'old' one - perhaps it could be moved to an archive?
So glad you found our site and hope also that you might be able to make it to a PB People event that we're thinking of holding in 2014 - could be in Brighton. We mentioned the idea at our meeting with Di in September with a view to linking it to her next visit. I wonder if you have any travel plans?

Would it be ok if I put a link to your post on our Home page so that people visiting will know where to find out more info?

Thanks again for getting in touch. :cheer:

Sally Ann: Absolutely put it out there. I am working on a website for PB USA and should have it up and running at the end of the week (if I don't throw the computer out the window first!).

Would really appreciate some feedback from those who have used the older version and now the newer one. You will find the new one much more user friendly, and can be picked up by those who have had minimal or no PB training.

Plans to visit UK are in the making, but not confirmed. My daughter/son-in-law and I want to come to London where my brother and his wife inherited a house in Kensington and use that as a base. Then off to Greece to visit my brother who summers on Paros Island. (That is if there is a Greece by 2014!) So, it is a for sure trip, but when.

Perhaps you have some ideas as to when it would be good to come to see PBers. Our school year varies greatly from UK so I don't have a reference. I wouldn't want to come when all is on holiday!

Yours for a safer world! Donna F.

And it has arrived! :cheer:

This resource can now be found in the trainer area of the Training Room and is available to PB Trainers registered with this site. This is because the materials are designed to be introduced and ideas developed by a person experienced in facilitating internalisation of the PBs process.

A further thought I have is that access to the manual and workbook could be included in a 4 day PB Process into Practice course where people are formally working towards becoming more of a specialist PB practitioner. I believe there could be time between days 2 & 3 where people could choose to familiarise themselves with the materials with a view to implementing ideas and activities and making any necessary adaptations to meet the needs of the people they were using PBs with. This could also provide valuable feedback which I know Donna is keen to receive.

Thank you once again Donna & Mary Ann for sharing all your hard work and wonderful ideas. Looking forward to getting to know them better.
